Thanks for stopping by. It's wonderful to "see" you. A veteran homeschooler, professional college planning specialist, and practicing Catholic, Katherine O'Brien, MA CCPS, founder of Celtic College Consultants, works with college bound teens all over the US. Preparing for college is a multi-faceted multi-year process. Preparing well makes the difference between an average outcome (1-3 major changes, 6 years to graduate, $30,000+ in student loan debt) and college success (graduate in 4 years with little to no debt). Preparing for college is completely different now than when we parents went. There are so many facets and complexities. Add to that recent changes and test scarcity and homeschoolers face real challenges when it comes to the college admissions process.
What is College Consulting/College Planning?
I work with teens from 8th - 12th grades to help them identify their goals, personal and academic strengths, evaluate their post secondary options, and take the steps to prepare themselves for and successfully apply to those schools and programs. I also work with their families on the financial side of things. Many families hire me to provide complete college planning services. I also offer some of my services individually. Over the past five graduating classes, my clients have been offered over $240,000 each, on average, in scholarships and have been accepted at multiple colleges and universities. They have clear goals, know themselves well, and have the personal skills to be successful on campus. Their families have enjoyed the journey to college, avoided the many hours of research, and the headaches and challenges of managing the entire application process, and they saved money.
My College Success Program has three pillars: Premier Student Preparation, Savvy College Selection, and Abundant Funding. Doing these three well has had tremendous outcomes. My 2015 - 2020 College Success Program graduates have been offered over $240,000 each in merit scholarships, on average, and have been accepted at several colleges each. This gives them excellent options for their futures!

“Ms. O'Brien was able to do more for Christopher in three months than I was ever able to do in years working with his three older siblings researching the best colleges for just the right fit. There is absolutely no way for even the most involved parent to do anywhere near what Ms. O'Brien has done in narrowing down the colleges which best fit my son… I cannot say enough about the VALUE which Ms. Katherine O'Brien brings to this extremely complicated process and pressure-filled task of college (and scholarship) searching. She has removed a huge load from my shoulders. She is worth her weight in gold!”
Mike Chavarria, Dept. of Justice, Houston, TX
“I truly believe that having Katherine as a part of the college application process was a blessing. The assistance with the essays and the FASFA application alone were priceless. Katherine was also there to talk through tough decisions and help prepare a roadmap for our son to reach his goals. He is extremely happy with his choice and we have no regrets with any part of the process. It was so very comforting to know that we could express our concerns about finding a CATHOLIC environment for our son in college with Katherine and that she had the resources readily available to answer our questions. As a result, we were able to enjoy our son’s senior year knowing we had explored the right schools for him.”
Dr. Khristy Thompson, Research Scientist, Harvard School of Public Health, Needham, MA
"Katherine helps kids find a great fit college, get accepted AND get funding for college through scholarships and grants. There is a lot involved in getting your child into a 'great fit' college and helping make it affordable. I've been amazed by her getting kids into Ivy's and highly selective colleges …And the scholarships and grants... she’s helped people get millions of dollars. All from a HIGHLY ETHICAL, spiritually based set of values. Katherine has my highest recommendation!"
Craig Jacobson, MBA Owner, Open Spaces Marketing, Encinitas, CA
“It is a minefield out there and Katherine knows the ropes. I wanted someone who knew the ropes to go to bat for me. We didn’t know what to look for or is available. It has changed so much since we went to college.”
Ann Hanson, writing coach San Diego, CA/Sao Paolo, Brazil
“We are very grateful to Katherine O'Brien for the guidance she has provided in our son’s college application process. … Her advice was invaluable as we sorted thru all the different applications and scholarships for each school. … We are especially thankful for the personal guidance she gave our son with the essays required for the different scholarships. One of the best things is that she is readily available to answer questions and responds quickly to e-mails! We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Celtic College Consultants.”
