James Staddon | Homeschool Connect Expo
About the Speaker

Hi! I’m James Staddon, a professional landscape, event, and wedding photographer from West Virginia.

Ever since I was a young, homeschooled teenager, I’ve been captivated by God's creation. I was inspired by my uncle's pictures of landscapes and the places he traveled, and his work made me excited about exploring photography. I had been taking pictures since the early 2000s, but in 2013 I jumped into pro photography and started teaching with Lenspiration. I've had the amazing opportunity to travel with my camera, and have been published at various times around the world. In addition to teaching photography online, I love to lead photography workshops and speak at homeschool conventions on photography and the life of a Christian photographer.

I know what it’s like to struggle through years of taking bad pictures and feeling confused by all the camera settings. It doesn’t have to be a struggle, though! I love to help students feel confident using their camera and learn how to “think like a photographer” so they can take beautiful photos too.

My friends and family would say that I love to take pictures. But I would say that I love helping others take better pictures. Through the assignments, workshops and coaching offered through Lenspiration, I love to see inspiration planted, nurtured, and expressed for the glory of God in the work of other photographers!

I would wholeheartedly recommend Lenspiration to any photographer whether you are a beginner, an enthusiast, or a professional! The Lenspiration forums are a great place to submit questions, answers, or get your photos critiqued. The real-life photo assignments have been a great place for me to learn how to take photos for a specific publisher’s needs, and I also really like the live photo critiques that happen every month! After going on a field day with James I had a lot of useful tips and tricks in my pocket, and I also learned to shoot in Manual mode which is super useful! I also really appreciate knowing that Lenspiration is “a wholesome, family-friendly, place to learn photography.” Thanks for all you do James!!

James is an enthusiast when in comes to photography. Whether it is taking wedding photos or teaching about the ins and outs of using a camera, he is a fun person to be around. He not only takes professional photos, but is great at explaining to someone else how to get those shots for themselves.

I’ve worked very closely with James and observed his practices over the years. He loves photography, but his love for people is even greater. I have seen him bend over backwards and make great sacrifices to offer excellent service and help his students improve their photography skills time and time again.
